Seafood is naturally low fat and a good source of protein. You’ll also benefit from a range of nutrients, including Omega-3 fatty acids (both EPA and DHA). The Omega-3’s that appear naturally in fish have been shown to help reduce the risk of heart disease, along with being beneficial to both eyesight and memory.

Choosemyplate.gov is the remake of the old food pyramid. Choosemyplate.gov breaks our dinner plate down to show just how much of each food group we need to eat. The USDA recommends eating at least 8 ounces of cooked seafood per week. You should vary your seafood intake and be sure to include species that are lower in mercury such as salmon, herring, sardines, anchovies and trout. It is also recommended that pregnant and breast-feeding women eat 8oz and up to 12oz of seafood a week to help with their baby’s development. For more information go to choosemyplate.gov.
