The “skinny” on fish and seafood.

At Morey’s we work hard to make sure that each mouth-watering bite of fish is good for you. Our goal is to provide you with products that are not only quick and easy to prepare, but delicious, too. We use only canola and olive oils to keep our products trans fat free. We also strive to provide gluten free products whenever possible. When you buy Morey’s you know you are getting premium seafood with chef-inspired marinades and sauces made with quality ingredients providing you a deliciously healthy meal solution for any day of the week.

Seafood is naturally low fat and a good source of protein. You’ll also benefit from a range of nutrients, including Omega-3 fatty acids (both EPA and DHA). You’ve no doubt heard about Omega-3’s and may have even seen or tried supplements. The Omega-3’s that appear naturally in fish have been shown to help reduce the risk of heart disease, along with being beneficial to both eyesight and memory.

Have you had your 8oz this week?

Choosemyplate.gov is the remake of the old food pyramid. Choosemyplate.gov breaks our dinner plate down to show just how much of each food group we need to eat. The USDA recommends eating at least 8 ounces of cooked seafood per week. You should vary your seafood intake and be sure to include species that are lower in mercury such as salmon, herring, sardines, anchovies and trout. It is also recommended that pregnant and breast-feeding women eat 8oz and up to 12oz of seafood a week to help with their baby’s development. For more information go to choosemyplate.gov.
